INTERNSHIPS
In its long history, DUKE IN NEW YORK ARTS & MEDIA has developed relationships with many potential internship sponsors at the kind of places you’d like to be: from Broadway to off-off Broadway, ABC to MTV, Feature Films to SONY, the Guggenheim to the Whitney, Glamour to Psychology Today … far too many to even mention! Students have interned in architecture, in entertainment law, in events planning, in fashion, in marketing – in fact, in all areas, and especially those that interact with the arts and media.
Whether in a not-for-profit or in a large corporation, DiNY Arts & Media interns have a great reputation. Many have moved into full-time jobs their first semester out of college. In fact, we often hear about terrific internships from former students who are now accomplished professionals. While we cannot guarantee that you will get the internship of your dreams, we can maximize the chances. And we can say that every DiNY Arts & Media student in recent years has found an internship in the area of choice -- and most have had several offers.
Students are responsible for finding their own internships. But we give you special help with preparing a resume and with learning to use Duke resources. We also give you some names and contacts, based on the areas of interest you indicate on your application, to get started. We stay in touch while you find your internship and, once you’re in New York, we provide guests and insights that can help make you – and the internship experience -- shine.
Because internships have become a necessary part of a college student’s preparation, the question is not whether to do an internship but how to secure the best internships, the best internship for you that respects your talents and your ability to pay for time spent in a large city like New York. DiNY Arts & Media gives you a safe, secure place to live; it orients you to the city and makes your time in New York a valuable educational experience, recognized with Duke credit. DiNY has helped many hundreds of Duke students make the transition from college to work. It’s a terrific way to sample life and a career in the city.
